FEATURES
🏰 The 2004 Domaine de la Janasse Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée Chaupin comes from an excellent vintage for the Southern Rhône, particularly noted for its rich and concentrated wines from low-yielding, old Grenache vines. This organic, 100% Grenache offering is considered an archetype of the appellation, expressing the quintessence of Grenache.
It boasts a big, perfumed nose of raspberry and cherry fruit, licorice, vanilla, and minerals, evolving with air to reveal subtle coffee, tobacco, smoke, and floral notes. The palate is silky and smooth, striking a perfect balance between acidity, fruit, and tannin, with fine-grained, silky tannins on a very long finish. Expect deep ruby color, dark fruit, plum, black cherry, fig, and light spice.
🍴 This complex, all-Grenache Châteauneuf-du-Pape will complement a wide array of hearty dishes. It's an excellent match for lamb, game such as doe and wild boar with a hunter's sauce, or rare red meats which will soften the wine's tannins. Also consider beef stew, chocolate, and cheese.
🥂 This wine is complex, mature, and was considered ready to drink by 2007, with a drinking window extending to 2023. While it's past its peak drinking window in 2026, it can still be remarkably vibrant and enjoyable, especially with an hour of aeration. For older wines like this, be mindful of the cork and capsule, which can become fragile. Decanting is recommended to separate any sediment and allow the wine to breathe, but do so gently and monitor for signs of fading. Serve slightly below room temperature.
