FEATURES
🏰 The 1966 Jean-Jacques Confuron Romanée-Saint-Vivant Grand Cru is a rare and historic red Burgundy, representing a vintage from over half a century ago. While specific tasting notes for this exact wine and vintage are scarce, Romanée-Saint-Vivant is renowned for its aromatic complexity and refined structure, even in its youth. A 1966 Burgundy, if well-preserved, would likely exhibit the delicate, ethereal qualities of aged Pinot Noir, with tertiary aromas of forest floor, dried roses, truffle, and subtle spice, alongside faded red fruit. This wine offers a glimpse into Burgundy's past, a testament to the longevity of its Grand Crus. 【 A rare and historic Grand Cru, offering a glimpse into Burgundy's past 】. For wines of this venerable age, extreme care is paramount. The cork will almost certainly be fragile; a professional corkscrew like a Durand is essential to minimize the risk of breakage. Stand the bottle upright for several days, or even a week, before serving to allow any sediment to settle. Decanting should be done with caution, slowly pouring the wine into a clean decanter, leaving any sediment behind. A gentle decant for 30-60 minutes might help it open, but avoid excessive aeration which could cause delicate old aromas to dissipate. Serve slightly below room temperature, around 16-18°C (60-64°F), in large Burgundy glasses to appreciate its evolving bouquet. 🍴 This aged Grand Cru Pinot Noir would be exquisitely paired with classic, refined dishes that do not overpower its delicate nature. Think roasted game birds like woodcock or squab, a simple pan-seared duck breast, or a black truffle risotto. Avoid heavy sauces or strong spices that would mask its subtle complexities. 🥂 This wine is a profound choice for a truly once-in-a-lifetime celebration, such as a significant anniversary or a very special birthday for a Burgundy aficionado. It's an experience to be savored and shared with those who appreciate the history and evolution of fine wine, a moment of quiet reverence for a liquid legacy.
BACKGROUND
Domaine Jean Jacques Confuron is a wine producer located in Premeaux, near Nuits-Saint-Georges in the Côte de Nuits, Burgund, France. The viticultural portfolio is now approximately 95-percent Pinot Noir with small plantings of Chardonnay and Aligoté. The domaine has 8 hectares (19 acres) of vines across 14 appellations, including plots in the prestigious grand cru vineyards Clos de Vougeot and Romanée-Saint-Vivant. The domaine began with the marriage of Jean Confuron and Anne Marie Bouchard in 1926, bringing together the vineyards of two different families. These vineyards have been passed through the family since, and the domaine has expanded as well, picking up plots in the prestigious grand cru sites.
