Rene Engel, Vosne Romanee Les Brulees 1er Cru, 1988
🏰 The 1988 vintage in Burgundy was excellent for reds, with a warm, dry spring leading to early budburst, though flowering was disrupted by rain and cold. Good summer weather ensured an early harvest of high-quality, concentrated grapes with thick skins. This Rene Engel Vosne Romanee Les Brulees 1er Cru 1988 offers a 【soaring nose of red fruits, cranberries, mint spice, and earth, with a very candied profile】. The palate is impressively sweet with a silky texture, subtle tannins, and a long, ripe finish balanced by great acidity.
🍴 This mature Burgundy red pairs beautifully with roasted poultry, duck, or lighter game dishes. It also complements earthy flavors like wild mushrooms and truffle-infused cuisine.
🥂 Perfect for a special dinner, a gathering of wine enthusiasts, or a celebratory occasion where a complex and aged red wine is appreciated.
BACKGROUND
Domaine René Engel was a Burgundy producer known for making some of the top examples of Pinot Noir in Vosne-Romanée, France. The domaine remained in the Engel family for three generations until the death of Philippe Engel in 2005. The domaine's vineyard holdings spanned a total of around six hectares. In 2006, René Engel's vineyard holdings were purchased by François Pinault, owner of the renowned Château Latour, and Domaine d'Eugenie was formed.
