🏰 The 1990 Rayas Chateau de Fonsalette Reserve Blanc is a 【rare and highly sought-after white Rhône blend from the legendary Chateau Rayas estate】, known for defying its appellation status. Chateau de Fonsalette, founded by Louis Reynaud, is known for its meticulous care and respect for the terroir, producing limited quantities of exceptional wines. The 1990 vintage, now over three decades old, represents a mature expression of this Southern Rhône white blend. This white wine typically exhibits a tropical and balanced style. Mature examples can show notes of brown spice, beeswax, lanolin, herbed dried honey, and dried nectarine, with a waxy texture and good acidity. Expect a complex bouquet that has evolved over time.
🍴 It pairs well with rich fish like salmon and tuna, poultry such as chicken and turkey, and mature and hard cheeses. It can also complement duck soups or dumplings.
🥂 An extraordinary wine for a very special occasion, a vertical tasting of older Rhône whites, or a contemplative evening for serious collectors. For a wine of this age, expect potential sediment and a delicate cork. Decant carefully to separate any solids, and serve slightly chilled, around 12-14°C (54-57°F), to allow its complex aged aromas to unfold without being dulled by excessive cold.
BACKGROUND
Château Rayas is a leading producer in the Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation of the Rhône Valley, France. It is one of the region's most prestigious estates, and its wines fetch some of the highest prices in southern France. The estate covers 22 hectares, with 15 hectares dedicated to vineyards. Most of their vines are planted to Grenache. The estate's red wine is made solely from Grenache. The château's white Châteauneuf-du-Pape is generally made from Grenache Blanc and Clairette in roughly equaly proportions. Château Rayas has been in the Reynaud family since the 1880s.
