Michel & Stephane Ogier, Cote Rotie La Belle Helene, 2009
🏰 Hailed as a 【perfect wine】 by critics, the 2009 Michel & Stéphane Ogier Côte-Rôtie La Belle Hélène hails from an astronomical vintage in the Northern Rhône, delivering a flamboyant and exuberant expression of Syrah. This full-bodied marvel bursts with complexity, revealing an intoxicating array of notes including truffles, graphite, black raspberries, espresso roast, spice box, tapenade, and bouquet garni. It showcases a powerful structure harmoniously married with an elegant, velvety texture, culminating in a massive fruit impact and an astonishing 50-second finish. The 2009 vintage in Côte-Rôtie was characterized by desirable ripeness and distinguished depth, with wines that are opulent, rich, and possess velvety tannins, making them generous and age-worthy.
🍴 This magnificent Syrah demands equally rich and flavorful dishes. It's an ideal match for classic French preparations like poularde, morel fricassee, or Tournedos Rossini. Consider pairing it with roasted duck breast, venison, slow-cooked beef, or a hearty lamb stew to complement its intense fruit and spicy undertones.
🥂 This is the ultimate wine for a grand celebration, a luxurious dinner party, or a serious tasting session where a truly profound and expressive Northern Rhône Syrah is desired. Serve at 16-18°C (60-64°F) after decanting for at least 1-2 hours to allow its complex aromas and flavors to fully unfold.
BACKGROUND
Domaine Stéphane Ogier is a producer in the northern Rhône appellation of Côte Rôtie, France. It is especially well known for varietal Syrah from several highly regarded appellations in the region, but also making small amounts of Viognier from Condrieu and red and white Vin de Pays wine. The domaine was formed by Michel Ogier who had been growing grapes in the village of Ampuis in Côte Rôtie and selling them. Michel's son Stéphane began working at the winery in 1998. The estate had gone by Domaine Michel Ogier, but new vintages now commonly say either Domaine Michel et Stephane Ogier or M&S Ogier d'Ampuis.
