FEATURES
🏰 The 1970 Château Marquis de Terme, a Fourth Growth on the famous 1855 Classification of Bordeaux wines, represents a truly venerable vintage from Margaux. While specific detailed tasting notes for this particular vintage are rare, the 1970 vintage in Bordeaux was generally considered good, producing wines that could age gracefully. This wine, a blend predominantly of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Petit Verdot, would now be fully mature, offering a complex bouquet of evolved aromas. Expect tertiary notes of leather, earth, and possibly dried fruit, with softened tannins and a harmonious structure that only decades in the bottle can achieve. The château itself is emblematic of the Margaux terroir, known for its deep gravel soils. 【 A legendary Bordeaux winery with a rich history 】. Given its considerable age, this wine requires utmost care. The cork will be extremely fragile; use a specialized opener like a Durand or Ah-So. Decant very gently, perhaps just before serving, to remove any sediment, but be mindful that very old wines can be delicate and may fade quickly once exposed to air. Serve at a cool cellar temperature, around 15.5°C (60°F), to preserve its remaining freshness and intricate nuances. 🍴 Château Marquis de Terme is best served with all types of classic meat dishes, including veal, pork, beef, lamb, duck, and game. It also pairs well with Asian dishes, hearty fish courses like tuna, mushrooms, pasta, and cheese. For a mature Bordeaux, consider roasted rack of lamb with mint salsa verde or rich, umami-heavy dishes. 🥂 This historic bottle is perfect for a very special anniversary, a significant family gathering, or a contemplative tasting among serious collectors. It's an opportunity to experience a piece of Bordeaux history and appreciate the beauty of extreme age.
BACKGROUND
Château Marquis de Terme is a Fourth Growth (Quatrième Cru) estate in the Margaux appellation of Bordeaux, classified in 1855. The estate has a long history dating back to 1762 when it was named after the Marquis de Terme. Since 1935, it has been owned by the Sénéclauze family. The vineyard covers 40 hectares, planted predominantly with Cabernet Sauvignon, along with Merlot and Petit Verdot. The terroir consists of classic Margaux gravel soils, which provide excellent drainage and heat retention. The wines are known for their elegance, aromatic complexity, and silky tannins, typical of the Margaux style.
