🏰The 1985 Chateau Grand-Puy-Lacoste Lacoste-Borie is a 【classic expression of Bordeaux】 from a vintage known for its open and drinkable wines, offering a sunnier and more relaxed profile. This mature Pauillac reveals a fragrant nose of 【sweet black currant, licorice, cedar, and mint】, with hints of barnyard and evolving notes of tobacco, cigar box, and earthy nuances. The palate is juicy, vibrant, and medium-bodied, with a fine line of acidity and a velvety texture, showcasing lovely balance and a complete wine experience despite its inherent austerity.
🍴 This charming aged Bordeaux pairs wonderfully with roasted beef, lamb, or game birds. Its savory notes also complement truffle dishes or aged hard cheeses like Comté.
🥂 Ideal for a special family dinner, a gathering of Bordeaux lovers, or a contemplative evening. As a wine of this age, expect potential variations in bottle condition; handle with care, especially regarding the cork and capsule.
BACKGROUND
Château Grand-Puy-Lacoste is a wine estate situated on a hillock (or puy) above the village of Bages in the Pauillac region of the Médoc. Classified as a fifth growth in the 1855 Bordeaux Classification. The vineyard is sited around the château and covers 55 hectares (136 acres) of the wider estate. It is planted 75 percent to Cabernet Sauvignon, 20 percent Merlot and 5 percent Cabernet Franc. The soil is a classic Médoc mix of layers of gravel of differing depths, mixed with sand and a little clay. This allows excellent drainage and moderates day-night fluctuations in temperature to help ripen the crop. Pauillac's proximity to the Gironde estuary moderates weather extremes and helps to guard against frost.
