🏰The 1983 Chateau Montrose is a 【legendary red wine from an exceptional vintage】 in Saint-Estephe, known for its powerful and long-aging wines. The 1983 Bordeaux vintage was generally very good, with a hot and dry summer allowing for perfect grape ripening, though some areas like Saint-Estephe faced challenges with over-ripening. This wine, a blend predominantly of Cabernet Sauvignon, was aged for 18 months in new barrels. It displays an intense garnet color with complex aromas of black fruits, cedar, tobacco, and spices. On the palate, it's a powerful, full-bodied wine with velvety tannins and a long, persistent finish. While some critics found the 1983 Montrose to have a slightly flaccid bouquet with soy-tinged red fruit, lacking freshness and depth, others noted complex and elegant characteristics with raspberry, strawberry, cassis, rose petals, leather, and cedar.
🍴 This classic Bordeaux pairs beautifully with braised red meats, game, and ripened cheeses. Its structure also stands up well to grilled ribeye or roasted leg of lamb with herbs.
🥂 Ideal for a special occasion or a vertical tasting of older Bordeaux. Given its age, it's ready to drink now but can be cellared for several more years. For older wines like this, expect some sediment; decanting is highly recommended to allow the wine to breathe and to separate it from any deposits. Ensure the cork and capsule are in good condition before opening, and serve at around 15.5°C (60°F) to bring out its full complexity.
