FEATURES
🏰Perrier-Jouët's La Belle Epoque 1973 is a 【historic and spectacularly good vintage Champagne】, instantly recognizable by its iconic bottle adorned with Emile Gallé's Japanese white anemones. The 1973 Champagne vintage, following a challenging 1972, was marked by a long, warm summer and a generous harvest, yielding fruity, balanced, and mineral-driven Champagnes that have evolved beautifully over decades. 🍴 This rare and aged Champagne, with its complex tertiary notes, pairs wonderfully with rich seafood like shellfish, crab, and lobster. It can also be a delightful accompaniment to aged cheeses or simply savored on its own to appreciate its profound evolution. 🥂 A truly exceptional choice for celebrating a significant anniversary, a milestone birthday, or any occasion demanding a wine of immense historical value and evolved character. It's a wine for reflection and appreciating the beauty of extreme age. Serving a Champagne of this age (1973) requires special attention. Expect very few or no bubbles, as it will have evolved into a complex still wine. The cork will likely be fragile; use an Ah-So or Durand opener. Serve slightly warmer than young Champagne, around 10-12°C (50-54°F), in a white wine glass rather than a flute to allow its tertiary aromas of burnt caramel, hazelnuts, and dried fruits to fully develop.
BACKGROUND
The vineyards of Perrier-Jouët encompass 65 hectares (161 acres), with each plot being picked and vinified separately before being blended into its eventual cuvée. The blend is chosen by current cellar master, Herve Deschamps, who is just the seventh cellar master in the house's history. Chardonnay is used above Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier and gives a house style that is fruit-driven, floral and elegant. The wines are then aged for a minimum of three years underground in Perrier-Jouët's chalk cellars before release.
