FEATURES
🏰 The 2008 vintage in Châteauneuf-du-Pape was challenging, marked by a cool, wet spring and humid growing season, but was saved by the Mistral wind at the end. It was a low-yield harvest, with many producers eliminating certain cuvées. Despite the difficulties, good climatic conditions during harvest, thanks to the Mistral and fresh temperatures, allowed winemakers to achieve good phenolic and technological maturity. Clos Saint Jean's Deus Ex Machina is known for its ability to perform well even in more difficult vintages. The 2008 red wines from Châteauneuf-du-Pape generally showed fresh fruit aromas (strawberry, cherry), spicy notes (grey pepper, liquorice, aniseed), with density, savor, straightness, elegant tannins, supple but alive. 【 A testament to winemaking skill in a challenging vintage. 】
🍴 This wine is full-bodied, seamless, and beautifully textured, with ample kirsch, forest floor, truffle, black pepper, and an exotic, liquid flower-like quality, along with superb concentration and silky, polished tannins. It presents evolving aromas of blackberry confiture, wild thyme, dark chocolate, and a hint of tapenade. The palate offers concentrated but refined fruit flavors framed in velvety tannins, with a vein of minerality. At full maturity, it can give off aromas of very jammy fruit and weathered leather, with a garnet-red color showing beautiful golden highlights, and a soft, elegant palate and finish on fruit in brandy. This red 2008 will pair well with red or white meat dishes simmered gently, or a platter of mature cheeses.
🥂 Ideal for a dinner party with discerning guests who appreciate the nuances of a challenging vintage, or for a special occasion that calls for a mature and complex Southern Rhône red. It's a wine that has aged beautifully and offers a unique drinking experience.
