Henri Bonneau, Chateauneuf Du Pape Reserve Des Celestins, 1999
🏰 The 1999 Henri Bonneau Châteauneuf du Pape Réserve des Célestins is a legendary wine from a highly respected producer in the Southern Rhône. Henri Bonneau was known for his traditional, often idiosyncratic, winemaking approach, producing powerful and long-lived Châteauneuf du Pape. The 1999 vintage in the Southern Rhône was generally considered very good, offering wines with ripeness, structure, and good aging potential. Réserve des Célestins is Bonneau's top cuvée, made from very old Grenache vines and aged extensively in old foudres. Expect a wine of immense complexity and depth, showcasing notes of garrigue, kirsch, black cherry, licorice, leather, and exotic spices, with a rich, full-bodied palate and a long, lingering finish. It would have evolved beautifully over the past two decades, developing profound savory and earthy characteristics. 【 A legendary, traditional Châteauneuf du Pape from a revered producer 】
🍴 This powerful and complex Châteauneuf du Pape demands equally robust and flavorful food. Classic pairings include slow-roasted lamb with herbs, beef stew with olives and Provençal herbs, wild boar ragu, or rich game dishes. Hard, aged cheeses like Comté or a strong sheep's milk cheese would also be excellent.
🥂 This wine is ideal for a grand celebration, a special dinner with discerning guests, or a vertical tasting of Henri Bonneau's iconic wines. It's a wine that commands attention and offers a profound tasting experience, a true testament to the magic of old-vine Grenache and traditional winemaking.
