🏰 The 2005 E. Guigal La Turque is a 【legendary 'desert island wine' from an utterly profound vintage】, celebrated for its extraordinary depth and aging potential of 20-30 years or more. This Cote Rotie Grand Cru, a blend of Syrah and Viognier, is just beginning to hit its stride, offering a mesmerizing bouquet of bacon fat, barbecued meats, chocolate, graphite, and spring flowers, alongside a huge core of dark fruits.
🍴 This powerful and structured wine pairs exceptionally well with roasted game meats, venison, and truffled dishes. It also complements umami-rich Japanese cuisine like charcoal-grilled Wagyu beef or soy-glazed duck. For a classic pairing, consider braised wild boar or aged hard cheeses.
🥂 Ideal for milestone celebrations, high-end collector dinners, or as the centerpiece for a special anniversary, this wine demands patience and appreciation. Remember to decant it for several hours to fully appreciate its complexity.
Serving suggestion: This 2005 vintage is mature but still has decades ahead. Ensure the cork and capsule are in good condition. Decant for at least 2-4 hours to allow its complex aromas to unfold, serving at 16-18°C (61-64°F).
BACKGROUND
E Guigal is one of the most famous wine producers in the Rhône. The company was founded in 1946 by Etienne Guigal in Ampuis on the west bank of the Rhone, just a stone's throw from the famous sun-baked slopes of the Côte Rôtie. Guigard's flagship wines are the famous "LaLa": La Landonne, La Mouline and La Turque. La Landonne is 100% Syrah, from 40-year-old vines and aged in oak barrels for a similar amount of time.
