FEATURES
🏰 The 1987 Jamet Côte Brune is a rare and intriguing find from a vintage that, while not universally declared exceptional in the Northern Rhône, can still yield beautiful, aged wines from top producers like Jamet. Côte Brune is known for producing powerful, long-lived Syrahs, and a 1987 bottling would offer a glimpse into the classic, old-world style of Côte-Rôtie. Expect tertiary aromas of leather, forest floor, dried flowers, and savory spices, alongside fading dark fruit. This wine would be a testament to the longevity of well-made Syrah. 【 A rare glimpse into aged Côte-Rôtie Syrah 】. 🍴 This venerable Côte-Rôtie would be best paired with equally classic and refined dishes. Think slow-cooked lamb shoulder, roasted game birds like pheasant or partridge, or a rich mushroom ragout. Avoid overly strong or spicy flavors that might overwhelm its delicate aged character. 🥂 This is a wine for a truly contemplative occasion, perhaps a small, intimate gathering of connoisseurs, or a very special personal milestone. It's a journey through time in a glass. Serving Advice: For a wine of this age, extreme care is paramount. The cork may be fragile, so use a Durand or Ah-So opener. Stand the bottle upright for at least a week to allow all sediment to settle. Decant very carefully, just before serving, to separate the wine from any sediment. Watch closely for any signs of fragility or oxidation. If the wine appears cloudy or has an off-odor, it may be past its prime. Serve at cellar temperature, around 16-18°C (60-64°F). Be prepared for a delicate, evolved profile.
BACKGROUND
Domaine Jamet is a renowned wine producer located in Ampuis, at the heart of the northern Rhône wine region in France, celebrated for its traditional Cote Rotie wines. The estate spans about seven hectares (17 acres) of vineyards, scattered across small plots in the Côte Brune and Côte Blonde areas of Côte Rotie. Predominantly, the vineyards are planted with Syrah, complemented by minor plantings of Marsanne, Viognier, and Roussanne. Founded by Joseph Jamet in 1950. By 1976, Domaine Jamet started bottling its own wines. After Joseph retired, his sons Jean-Luc and Jean-Paul ran the estate. Currently, Jean-Paul and Corinne Jamet oversee the domaine, joined by their son Loïc since 2015.
