Charles Noellat, Vosne Romanee Les Genevrieres, 1983
🏰 Experience a rare journey with Charles Noellat Vosne-Romanée Les Genevrieres 1983, a mature 1er Cru Burgundy offering 【a glimpse into a classic, aged Pinot Noir from a challenging yet rewarding vintage】. While 1983 in Burgundy saw some variability, top producers like Noellat crafted wines of surprising depth. Expect a delicate bouquet of forest floor, truffle, dried leaves, and savory notes, with hints of faded red fruit like dried cherry. The palate is likely ethereal, with fully resolved tannins and graceful acidity, delivering a contemplative and nuanced experience.
🍴 This aged Burgundy red wine is perfect with classic pairings such as roasted fowl (duck, pheasant), delicate mushroom dishes (especially truffle risotto), coq au vin, or a selection of mature, mild cheeses.
🥂 An exceptional wine for a quiet, intimate dinner with fellow connoisseurs, a significant anniversary, or a reflective moment. Given its age, handle with extreme care; the cork may be fragile, so an Ah-So opener is recommended. Stand the bottle upright for several days to allow sediment to settle. Decant gently for a very short period (15-30 minutes) just before serving to remove sediment, or pour directly into glasses, being mindful of the sediment. Serve at cellar temperature, around 16°C (60°F). Be prepared for potential bottle variation due to its venerable age.
BACKGROUND
Charles Noëllat is the current wine merchant brand in the Côte de Nuits sub-region of Burgundy. The few original wines left are very sought-after and very rare. The Noëllat family has a long history of wine production in Vosne-Romanée, started in the early 20th century by brothers Charles and Ernest. Descendants of Charles and Ernest are winemakers at Domaine Georges Noëllat and Domaine Michel Noëllat et Fils respectively.
