FEATURES
🏰 The 1975 Charles Noellat Romanée-Saint-Vivant Grand Cru is a rare and historically significant bottle from a challenging, yet intriguing, Burgundy vintage. While 1975 was generally considered a very poor vintage for red Burgundy due to hail and widespread rot, some experts note that the harvest was late and dry, with the best vineyards in the Côte de Nuits producing refined wines that can still be vibrant today if well-cellared. Those who made extremely severe selections were able to craft good wines. Given the vintage's reputation, specific tasting notes for this exact wine are scarce, but well-preserved examples from top Grand Cru sites like Romanée-Saint-Vivant would likely offer a glimpse into the old-world style, potentially revealing delicate tertiary aromas of forest floor, dried flowers, and subtle spice, rather than vibrant primary fruit. 【 A rare bottle from a challenging but historically significant Burgundy vintage. 】 🥂 This is a wine for a truly special occasion, perhaps a milestone anniversary or a vertical tasting for a seasoned collector, where the experience of tasting history outweighs the expectation of peak performance. It's a testament to the resilience of fine Burgundy. Serving Advice: Wines of this age are inherently fragile. Handle the bottle with extreme care, keeping it upright for several days before serving to allow any sediment to settle. A gentle decant, just enough to separate the wine from its sediment, is often recommended, but be prepared for a potentially delicate cork and capsule. Serve slightly below room temperature, around 16-17°C (60-62°F), to best appreciate its evolved character. 🍴 For an aged red Burgundy like this, classic pairings would include roasted game birds such as pheasant or pigeon, delicate mushroom dishes, coq au vin, or refined preparations of beef like a slow-braised short rib.
BACKGROUND
Charles Noëllat is the current wine merchant brand in the Côte de Nuits sub-region of Burgundy. The few original wines left are very sought-after and very rare. The Noëllat family has a long history of wine production in Vosne-Romanée, started in the early 20th century by brothers Charles and Ernest. Descendants of Charles and Ernest are winemakers at Domaine Georges Noëllat and Domaine Michel Noëllat et Fils respectively.
