FEATURES
🏰 The 1974 Charles Noellat Richebourg Grand Cru is a rare and venerable red Burgundy, representing a challenging yet intriguing vintage. While 1974 was generally considered a difficult year for Burgundy, some producers managed to craft wines with surprising longevity and character. Richebourg, being a Grand Cru, often transcends vintage limitations, offering a glimpse into the past. Expect a wine that has evolved significantly, likely displaying tertiary aromas of forest floor, dried roses, leather, and subtle spice, rather than vibrant primary fruit. The structure would have softened over the decades, presenting a delicate and ethereal experience. 【Rare Grand Cru from a Challenging Vintage】 Serving Advice: For a wine of this age, extreme care is paramount. Ensure the bottle has been stored undisturbed for an extended period. Stand it upright for several days before serving to allow any sediment to settle. Use a Durand or an Ah-So opener for the fragile cork. Decanting is often recommended for older wines to separate sediment, but for a 1974, a gentle pour directly into glasses after a brief upright period might be safer to avoid over-aeration, which could cause the wine to fade quickly. Serve slightly below room temperature, around 16-18°C (60-64°F). 🍴 This aged Richebourg would be best paired with simple, elegant dishes that won't overpower its delicate nuances. Think roasted fowl like squab or guinea fowl, mushroom-based dishes, or a classic coq au vin. Avoid strong sauces or highly spiced foods. 🥂 This is a wine for a truly special, intimate occasion, perhaps a milestone anniversary or a gathering of serious Burgundy enthusiasts. It's a journey through time, a testament to endurance, and a gentle reminder of the fragility and beauty of aged wines. Handle with care, as old corks and capsules can be delicate.
BACKGROUND
Charles Noëllat is the current wine merchant brand in the Côte de Nuits sub-region of Burgundy. The few original wines left are very sought-after and very rare. The Noëllat family has a long history of wine production in Vosne-Romanée, started in the early 20th century by brothers Charles and Ernest. Descendants of Charles and Ernest are winemakers at Domaine Georges Noëllat and Domaine Michel Noëllat et Fils respectively.
