🏰The 1983 Krug Clos du Mesnil is a legendary single-vineyard Champagne, revered for its 【extraordinary rarity and profound expression of pure Chardonnay from a walled plot】. This vintage, though from a challenging year, showcases Krug's masterful ability to craft wines of immense complexity and longevity. Expect a symphony of toasted brioche, honey, dried fruits, and a vibrant, still-present acidity that speaks to its incredible age.
🍴 This iconic Champagne deserves to be the star of the show. Pair it with luxurious dishes like caviar, seared foie gras, or roasted turbot with a delicate sauce. It can also be enjoyed on its own as a contemplative experience.
🥂 An unparalleled choice for a truly momentous celebration, a significant anniversary, or a once-in-a-lifetime tasting for the most discerning Champagne collector. Please note that with wines of this age, cork and capsule condition can vary, and careful opening is recommended.
BACKGROUND
Krug is one of Champagne's most prestigious houses and its wines are among the most collectible and expensive in Champagne. The house was founded in 1843 by Joseph Krug, a native of the Mosel region in Germany, who had moved to France and spent some time working for Jacquesson, the leading Champagne house of the time. Krug's philosophy was that every Champagne should be the best possible expression, and eschewed the common idea of a hierarchy of Champagne. Instead, he began to craft a premium wine from a reserve of wines vinified separately by the growers themselves, a wine that would eventually become the Grande Cuvée.
