FEATURES
🏰 The 2002 vintage in Burgundy was truly exceptional, marked by ideal conditions including a dry summer and sunny September, yielding grapes with outstanding aromatic potential for structured and complex wines. Domaine d'Auvenay's Meursault Les Narvaux 2002 is a radiant example, showcasing elegance, precision, and depth, with Lalou Bize-Leroy's touch delivering a wine vibrating with minerality and life. This wine is crafted from the high-slope Les Narvaux plot, featuring lean, limestone-rich soils, farmed with strict biodynamic discipline and extremely low yields. The vinification is natural and minimalist, involving spontaneous fermentation and over 24 months of aging in old oak barrels, without fining or filtration. D'Auvenay is renowned for its tiny production, with grapes meticulously hand-clipped baie-par-baie and fermented in personally-selected new Francois Freres casks, making these wines among the rarest and most special in the world.
This pale golden-yellow wine offers an elegant and layered nose of ripe pear, almond, citrus zest, white blossoms, flint, and subtle buttery hints. On the palate, it is rich yet precise, with integrated acidity, tension, and a vibrant mineral backbone, culminating in a long finish with hazelnut and chalky salinity. Other notes describe intense grapefruit, quince, slate, mineral, nectarine, lemon peel, dried white flowers, roasted nuts, and smoke, alongside smoky minerals, stones, spices, and pears.

🥂 This Meursault is superb for contemplative sipping, or for a sophisticated dinner. As a wine of this age, handle with care; old corks can be fragile, so a Durand opener is recommended. Decanting for 30-60 minutes can allow its complex aromas to fully express, but monitor closely to preserve delicate nuances. Serve at 12-13 °C.
🍴 It pairs wonderfully with lobster, shellfish risotto, butter-poached turbot, mild blue cheeses, or even fresh salads.
