🏰The 1999 D'Auvenay Meursault Les Narvaux, crafted by the legendary Lalou Bize-Leroy, is an **exuberant and powerful white Burgundy** that, at nearly twenty years of age, is just entering its early plateau of maturity. This 100% Chardonnay offers off-the-charts intensity and a level of pure class far beyond most village crus. It wafts from the glass with enticing aromas of crisp apricot, lemon confit, pastry cream, oatmeal, and iodine, with time in bottle bringing out slightly tropical overtones. The palate is full-bodied and textural yet chalky, with incredible depth and concentration, underpinned by tangy acids and concluding with a precisely delineated, long, and complex finish.
🍴 This opulent and complex white Burgundy pairs wonderfully with rich fish like salmon and tuna, shellfish (crab, lobster), poultry (chicken, turkey), mild and soft cheeses, and Asian cuisine.
🥂 An exceptional wine for a significant celebration, a gourmet dinner, or a serious tasting with fellow Burgundy aficionados. Readers lucky enough to own it can look forward to another 20 years of exceptional drinking.
BACKGROUND
Domaine d Auvenay is a small Burgundy wine estate located in Saint-Roman. It is the third entity in the Leroy empire, named after Lalou Bize-Leroy and was previously run by her husband Marcel Bize until his death in 2004. There are 4 hectares (10 acres) of vines, but these include plots of the Grand Cru Mazis-Chambertin, Bonnes-Mares and Bâtard-Montrachet, as well as a handful of top cru vineyards, including Puligny-Montrachet Les Folatières and Meursault les Gouttes d 'Or.
