🏰 【A legendary Grand Cru from a superb Burgundy vintage, crafted by the highly revered D'Auvenay】, the 1999 Bonnes Mares is a testament to an exceptional year. The 1999 Burgundy vintage for reds was outstanding, marked by a superb summer that yielded a clean crop of high quality, particularly for Pinot Noir from the Montagne de Reims, resulting in plump and early-approachable wines. While specific tasting notes for D'Auvenay's 1999 Bonnes Mares are not detailed, expect a wine of profound complexity, showcasing mature red and dark fruit, earthy undertones, and elegant spice, with a long, evolving finish.
🍴 This prestigious red Burgundy pairs exquisitely with roasted game birds like duck or pheasant, classic beef bourguignon, truffle-infused dishes, or a selection of aged, firm cheeses.
🥂 This is a wine for truly significant celebrations, a milestone anniversary dinner, or a serious tasting event for collectors. Given its 25 years of age, this wine is likely at a beautiful stage of maturity. Please handle with care, as older corks can be fragile, and consider decanting gently to allow any sediment to settle and the wine to breathe, revealing its full aromatic spectrum.
BACKGROUND
Domaine d Auvenay is a small Burgundy wine estate located in Saint-Roman. It is the third entity in the Leroy empire, named after Lalou Bize-Leroy and was previously run by her husband Marcel Bize until his death in 2004. There are 4 hectares (10 acres) of vines, but these include plots of the Grand Cru Mazis-Chambertin, Bonnes-Mares and Bâtard-Montrachet, as well as a handful of top cru vineyards, including Puligny-Montrachet Les Folatières and Meursault les Gouttes d 'Or.
