🏰 The 2018 vintage for red Burgundy was largely very good but heterogeneous, marked by a warm and dry growing season, one of the hottest since 2003. Picking dates were crucial, with earlier harvests generally resulting in lower alcohol levels. Some wines showed overripe and tannic characteristics, while the most successful reds achieved superlative quality with ripe flavors, tannins, and adequate acidity, often with a feeling of freshness. Arnaud Mortet's 2018 Mazoyères-Chambertin Grand Cru is described as fruit-forward and velvety, with spicy and smoky notes. It features flavors of cherry, raspberry, and wet stones, supported by bright acidity and well-integrated tannins, making it suitable for drinking now or cellaring. Vinous notes dark berry fruit on the nose, with concentration and hints of potpourri developing over time. The palate is very well defined with succulent black fruit and saturated tannins, almost candied towards the finish, leaving blueberry and cassis. 【Arnaud Mortet's "sexiest" contribution to the 2018 vintage, offering succulent black fruit and saturated tannins.】
🍴 Mazoyères-Chambertin wines are powerful, virile, complex, and intense Pinot Noirs that demand equally complex, high-toned dishes. Excellent with feathered game (grilled or in wine sauce), roast lamb in gravy, chicken in red wine sauce, glazed poultry, and rib steak. Also pairs well with beef, veal, and other game (deer, venison). Soft-centred cheeses also get strong support from the wine's power and aromatic persistence.
🥂 Perfect for a celebratory dinner, a special occasion, or a gathering for serious wine enthusiasts who appreciate a powerful and complex red Burgundy.
