🏰The 2019 Joseph Roty Marsannay Les Ouzeloy is a 【serious effort from nearly 100-year-old vines, built for the cellar and showcasing brilliant oak integration】. From a hot, low-rain vintage, this wine offers concentrated dark fruit. It opens with enticing notions of cassis, plums, sweet berries, and licorice. Medium to full-bodied, it boasts a velvety and concentrated palate with a broad attack and a layered, lively mid-palate. The expressive bouquet, slightly toasty, reveals lavish black fruit laced with blood orange and graphite notes. While the oak is noticeable now, it is expected to assimilate beautifully within 4-5 years, leading to a dense and sinewy finish.
🍴 This powerful Pinot Noir is an excellent match for rich dishes such as duck, goose, and various game birds.
🥂 A superb choice for collectors and enthusiasts looking to age their wines, this Marsannay will generously reward patience. It's also suitable for a special dinner where its complexity and structure can be appreciated.
BACKGROUND
Domaine Joseph Roty is one of Burgundy's leading wineries with the largest cult following in the country. The family has been producing wine since 1710 and has 12 hectares (30 acres) of vines with an average age of over 60 years, producing a range of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay wines considered to be some of the best on the Côte d'Or. one. The core estate is none other than Joseph Rotti, himself a legend in the region who died in 2008 not only because of the quality of the wines, but also because of his reluctance to be interviewed by reporters and share details of their winemaking methods.
