Prieure Roch, Nuits St Georges 1er Cru Vieilles Vignes, 2019
🏰 Prieuré Roch's 2019 Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Vieilles Vignes is an 【iconoclastic and pure expression of old-vine Pinot Noir from a legendary Burgundy vintage】, crafted with biodynamic principles and whole-cluster fermentation. From a domaine renowned for its meticulous, natural approach, this wine, often a selection from the Clos des Corvées monopole, offers a deep ruby color. The nose is complex, revealing aromas of ripe cherry, blackberry, floral notes, and subtle hints of spices and earthiness, with some tasters noting a unique "cherry cola" or "rubber" character. On the palate, it is powerful yet elegant, with red cherry, spice, and silky tannins, delivering an "electricity on the tongue" and a pure fruit expression. The 2019 vintage in Burgundy is celebrated for its complex, richly fruit-forward, and refined reds, promising decades of cellaring potential.
🍴 This powerful and elegant Premier Cru Burgundy demands equally robust pairings. It is superb with game animals, such as venison or wild boar in a rich sauce, or a rare prime rib and duck breast. It also complements braised beef dishes, roast lamb, or strong, aged cheeses like Epoisses.
🥂 A rare tasting event, this wine is perfect for serious collectors and enthusiasts seeking a profound and age-worthy red Burgundy. While some find it approachable now, its structure suggests it will continue to evolve beautifully. Serve at cellar temperature, and consider a decant to allow its complex layers to unfold.
