🏰 The 1984 Maison Leroy Morey St Denis is an 【extraordinary testament to winemaking skill in a notoriously difficult vintage】 for Burgundy, with one reviewer calling it "sublime" and "an education in itself." Despite the challenging weather, Maison Leroy produced a wine that is considered a benchmark. It offers a charming, elegant perfume, 【exuberant and opulent with rich wild strawberries, raspberry, kirsch notes, dried herbs, and wild mushroom with a touch of rusticity】. The nose is hypnotic in its perfume, and the palate is equally so, with a very elegant mouthfeel and a lovely salinity on the finish. One reviewer noted a "signature Morey St Denis aroma" and, despite its age, good condition with high acidity.
🍴 While specific food pairings for this vintage are scarce, Burgundy Pinot Noir generally pairs well with duck, goose, and game birds. Given its age and potential tertiary notes, it would also complement earthy dishes like mushroom risotto or truffle-infused poultry.
🥂 This is a rare and extraordinary wine, suitable for a very special occasion for serious Burgundy collectors. It's an "education in itself" for those who appreciate the evolution of old wines from challenging vintages.
Serving: For a wine of this age (1984), expect the cork and capsule to be fragile. Decanting should be done with extreme care, just enough to remove sediment, and immediately before serving. Serve at cellar temperature, around 14-16°C (57-61°F). Be prepared for it to fade quickly, as one reviewer noted it started to fade after just 20 minutes. It's a testament to the producer's skill in a difficult vintage, but its longevity might be limited.
