Laurent Ponsot, Chambertin Cuvee Du Chene Grand Cru, 2017
🏰 The 2017 Laurent Ponsot Chambertin Cuvée du Chêne Grand Cru is an 【esoteric and elemental expression of Chambertin, showcasing Laurent Ponsot's maverick winemaking philosophy with its profound terroir-driven character, elegant fruit, and remarkable aging potential from a classic Burgundy vintage】. The 2017 vintage in Burgundy was generally very good, yielding wines that beautifully express their terroir with bright acidity and ripe flavors. This Grand Cru Pinot Noir offers a heavenly nose of roses, strawberry, plum, dark currant, and a whisper of forest floor, complemented by discreet wood notes. On the palate, it's dense yet open, velvety, and approachable, with focused, powerful flavors, evident minerality, and a long, spicy finish that speaks purely of its origins. This wine is already showing beautifully and has the structure to age gracefully, with a drinking window extending to 2037 and beyond.
🍴 This powerful and elegant Chambertin is a superb match for noble and complex dishes. It pairs perfectly with red meat dishes such as grilled beef, lamb in sauce, or various game meats (furred or feathered, especially roasted or braised). It also beautifully complements matured cheeses like Comté or Brie de Meaux.
🥂 An exceptional choice for a grand celebration, a significant milestone, or a serious tasting among Burgundy aficionados. Its depth, complexity, and ability to age make it a prized addition to any cellar, promising an evolving and captivating experience. Serve between 16-18°C (60-64°F).
BACKGROUND
Domaine Laurent Ponsot is Laurent Ponsot who resigned from Domaine Ponsot in early 2017 and established his own business in Burgundy with his son. For his new venture, he continues to source fruit from his sharecropping arrangement with the Mercier family, which includes plots of Griotte, Chambertin and Chambolle 1er Cru “Les Charmes,” vines grown by Ponsot since 1982.
