FEATURES
🏰 The 2018 vintage in Bordeaux, including Sauternes, was characterized by wet weather and mild temperatures, with significant rainfall in winter and spring. Despite initial challenges like downy mildew, a hot and dry summer ultimately reversed the situation, allowing grapes to achieve perfect maturity. Château Suduiraut, a Premier Cru Classé in 1855, is celebrated for its masterful handling of noble rot. The 2018 vintage particularly benefited from the season's capricious nature, resulting in a wine that beautifully balances tension and grace. Yields were exceptionally tiny, at just 5 hectoliters per hectare, with 40% of the harvest dedicated to the grand vin. This wine is crafted entirely from Sémillon grapes and aged for 16-20 months in 50% new and 50% one-year-old oak barrels. The harvest concluded on November 9th.
This Château Suduiraut 2018 displays a pale to medium lemon-gold colour. The nose is exuberant, offering notes of candied citrus peel, warm pineapple, guava, key lime pie, orange marmalade, beeswax, acacia honey, dried mango, quince, tangerines, orange blossom, honeyed apricots, white flowers, and subtle spice. The palate is packed with power and richness, featuring mouth-coating tropical fruits, candied ginger complexities, sun-drenched apricot, and simmered peach. It is extremely rich, dark, and concentrated, with attractive bitter orange flavors that cleverly provide tension. The wine achieves a meticulous balance between richness of flavor and refreshing acidity, presenting as full-bodied, decadent, and beautifully balanced. It culminates in a long, earth-laced, unctuous, spicy, and admirably prolonged finish, with excellent aging potential for 15-20 years. 【 James Suckling rated it 97-98 points, while Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, Jeb Dunnuck, Vinous, and Decanter also awarded it high scores, solidifying its status as a highly-rated Premier Cru Sauternes from a challenging yet exceptional vintage, showcasing opulent texture and unrivalled depth. 】
