🏰 The 1992 vintage in Bordeaux was considered less than impressive due to a summer with significant rainfall, yet this Château Duhart-Milon offers a surprising experience. On the nose, it is very aromatic with nuances of ripe fruit and a touch of cedar. The palate delivers a fruity and subtle taste, echoing the aromas from the nose. Some tasters found a harmonious, slightly animalistic nose with fruit and well-managed tannins, appearing fresher and livelier than anticipated, despite a thin and dry finish. 【 4th Cru Classé in the 1855 classification 】 and owned by Domaines Barons de Rothschild, this wine represents a classic Pauillac expression.
🍴 This Pauillac red pairs beautifully with classic meat dishes such as beef and venison. Regional pairings include suckling lamb, roasted partridge with grapes, or guinea fowl.
🥂 Given its unexpected charm for a challenging vintage, this wine is a delightful choice for a casual gathering or a relaxed lunch with friends, where it can be a pleasant surprise. It also makes a thoughtful personal present.
BACKGROUND
Château Duhart-Milon, previously known as Duhart-Milon-Rothschild, is a winery in the Pauillac appellation of the Médoc, and ranked as a fourth growth in the 1855 Bordeaux Classification. The single 73-hectare (180-acre) vineyard block is situated just to the west of Lafite Rothschild, facing Lafon-Rochet in Saint-Estèphe. The soils are a mix of fine gravel and sand on limestone, and are planted two-thirds to Cabernet Sauvignon and one-third to Merlot, although the precise proportion of the grand vin blend can vary with each vintage – for example, the 2012 features 53 percent Merlot.
