🏰 D'Auvenay Bourgogne Aligoté Sous Chatelet 2014 is a 【legendary and remarkably concentrated Aligoté from Lalou Bize-Leroy's Domaine d'Auvenay, transcending expectations for the varietal with Grand Cru quality】. This wine is often praised as the 'best Aligote on the market' and 'far better than Domaine Leroy'. The 2014 vintage is described as having remarkable depth and concentration, still immensely youthful. Expect aromas of crisp green orchard fruit, citrus zest, freshly baked bread, smoke, and struck flint, with notes of crunchy citrus oil, Anjou pear, beeswax, and fresh butter. Some reviewers even detect 'burnt matchstick' and 'popcorn' aromas. The palate is medium to full-bodied, tightly wound, searingly intense, structured, and incisive, with prodigious levels of dry extract and a racy spine of acidity.
🍴 Given its intensity and acidity, this exceptional Aligoté would pair well with rich seafood, poultry in cream sauces, or even some lighter pork dishes. Its minerality would also complement fresh goat cheese or oysters.
🥂 A truly exceptional and rare wine for serious collectors and those seeking a profound and unique white Burgundy experience. It is still immensely youthful and needs time to age.
Serving Suggestion: For a 2014 vintage, this wine is still relatively young for its potential. It will benefit from decanting for 1-2 hours to allow its complex aromas to unfold. Serve chilled, around 10-12°C (50-54°F). Ensure the cork is in good condition.
BACKGROUND
Domaine d Auvenay is a small Burgundy wine estate located in Saint-Roman. It is the third entity in the Leroy empire, named after Lalou Bize-Leroy and was previously run by her husband Marcel Bize until his death in 2004. There are 4 hectares (10 acres) of vines, but these include plots of the Grand Cru Mazis-Chambertin, Bonnes-Mares and Bâtard-Montrachet, as well as a handful of top cru vineyards, including Puligny-Montrachet Les Folatières and Meursault les Gouttes d 'Or.
