FEATURES
🏰 The 1978 Chateau La Gaffeliere hails from Bordeaux's renowned "Miracle Vintage," a year that, despite a challenging start, saw a perfect September rescue the harvest, leading to wines with 【great concentration of character, tannins, and balancing acidity】. This Saint-Émilion Grand Cru Classé, at over 45 years old, offers classic tertiary notes on the nose, with 【earthy, almost Médoc-like aromatics, blackcurrant, dried cherry, leather, smoke, tobacco box, meat, and spices】. The palate is quite pale but not alarmingly so, with a decent body, strong acidity, and integrated, ripe tannins, showcasing blackcurrant, blackberry, blueberry, raspberry, red cherry, cedar, and leaves. While some critics suggest drinking up, others find it still offers great drinking pleasure with impeccable balance and a harmonious whole.
🍴 This mature Bordeaux pairs wonderfully with classic meat dishes such as roasted or grilled beef, lamb, duck, and game. It also complements hearty Asian dishes, rich fish courses like tuna, mushrooms, pasta, and ripe cheeses.
🥂 An exceptional choice for a significant anniversary or a special occasion, offering a glimpse into a storied vintage. This wine is likely at its peak or gently declining, so enjoy it soon. Given its age, expect some bottle variation and handle with extreme care. The cork and capsule may be very fragile, so a Durand opener or similar tool is highly recommended. Decant for 1-2 hours to allow it to open up and shed any sediment, serving at 15.5°C (60°F) to enhance its freshness and lift.
