🏰 【The 2005 Chateau Maucaillou, from an exemplary Bordeaux vintage, is a well-aged Moulis offering elegant, soft, and round tannins.】 This Moulis-en-Médoc, situated on prized Günz gravel terraces, presents a medium red color and is fully mature. On the nose, expect aromas of blackcurrant, dark plum (sometimes stewed), spice, and oak, alongside currant, fresh berry, and rose petal notes. The palate is medium-bodied with a sweet core of fresh black cherries, forest floor, and thyme, leading to a round, cherry finish. It boasts fine, silky tannins and balanced acidity, with potential hints of violet, licorice, slate, and vanilla from oak aging.
🍴 This classic Bordeaux red is an excellent match for beef and venison, roast leg of lamb, grilled ribeye steak, and duck confit. It also pairs well with aged hard cheeses like Comté or Ossau-Iraty, mushroom risotto, and a variety of classic meat dishes. Its versatility extends to Asian dishes, hearty fish courses like tuna, mushrooms, and pasta.
🥂 Ideal for a sophisticated dinner party, a celebratory meal, or a quiet evening enjoying a beautifully aged claret. It's also a great choice for a casual gathering, as it's very versatile and easy to pair with good food. Serve at cool room temperature, around 16–18°C, in a large Bordeaux glass. Younger vintages benefit from 30–60 minutes of decanting, but for this 2005, a shorter decant to allow it to open up should suffice.
