🏰The 1998 Bordeaux vintage was a triumph for the Right Bank, but also produced some good classic wines from the Médoc, with the best examples showing considerable elegance, charm, opulence, and concentration. Chateau Lynch Bages' second wine, Chateau Haut Bages Averous 1998, comes from a year where Left Bank wines, despite initial challenges, are holding up surprisingly well, displaying beautiful red fruit aromas and a lingering finish. Expect a wine that is round, rich, and in the best cases, expresses a flamboyant, fleshy style coupled with freshness and character.
🍴 This mature Bordeaux red is excellent with classic pairings like roasted lamb, beef Wellington, or hard aged cheeses. For an Asian culinary adventure, consider Cantonese roasted goose, braised beef brisket in clear broth, or a rich soy-braised pork belly.
🥂 Ideal for a sophisticated dinner party, a special family gathering, or as a thoughtful gift for a Bordeaux enthusiast. This 1998 vintage is well into its drinking window, offering complex tertiary notes of leather, tobacco, and dried fruit. The cork and capsule may be fragile; open with care. Decanting for 1-2 hours is recommended to allow the wine to fully open up and separate from any sediment. Serve at 16-18°C (60-64°F).
BACKGROUND
