FEATURES
🏰 The 1989 vintage was a very good year for Burgundy, characterized by a hot and dry summer and an early harvest of a ripe, rich crop. The red wines from this vintage displayed velvety tannins and a fine color, showing softer, more elegant tendencies compared to the 1988s. J.F. Mugnier is recognized among the best producers of this vintage. Musigny Grand Cru itself is widely regarded as one of Burgundy's most revered vineyards and greatest wines. This wine offers an expressive nose with fully mature aromas and initial hints of sous-bois. Expect gamy, earthy, and faintly dry medium-full flavors that are rich and moderately complex, with the underlying tannins largely resolved. The finish is slightly austere and ever-so-mildly dry, with solid though not exceptional persistence. Some notes describe a sweet nose, slightly better than anticipated, though overall it might be perceived as single-dimensional, lacking the intensity or complexity expected of a wine of this caliber. However, other tasters have found it minty, herbal, cool, and quite refreshing amidst live red fruit flavors, with a notable grip on the palate, displaying tremendous energy and elegance quintessential to the vineyard. It's often described as a charming wine, rather than a big one, with prominent red fruit notes like raspberry and cherry. 【 A charming and elegant expression of Musigny from a very good, mature Burgundy vintage 】 🍴 This mature Musigny Grand Cru pairs beautifully with classic Burgundian pairings such as duck, goose, and other game birds. It is also perfect with beef Wellington, gamey meats, roast white meats, braised dishes, and even pungent cheeses. 🥂 This wine is ready to drink now, though there is no real rush. It is best suited for a very special, intimate gathering of connoisseurs, or a reflective moment where its nuanced evolution can be fully appreciated. **Serving Advice for Old Wine:** This 1989 Musigny Grand Cru is a rare and delicate treasure. The cork will likely be very fragile; a Durand or Ah-So opener is essential. Decant carefully for 1-2 hours to allow it to breathe and separate from any sediment, but watch it closely as older wines can fade quickly. Serve gently at 16-18°C (60-64°F) in fine Burgundy glasses. Handle the bottle with extreme care to avoid disturbing sediment.
