FEATURES
🏰 The 1973 Georges Roumier Clos Vougeot Grand Cru is a rare and historic bottle from a legendary Burgundy producer. While 1973 was not a universally declared great vintage for Burgundy, a Grand Cru from a top producer like Georges Roumier can still offer a fascinating and rewarding experience, showcasing the unique characteristics of aged Pinot Noir. The true magic of such old wines lies in their evolution and the glimpse they offer into a bygone era of winemaking. 【Unearth a piece of Burgundy history with this venerable Clos Vougeot, revealing delicate tertiary aromas of dried roses, forest floor, and subtle spice, a testament to its remarkable longevity and the artistry of Roumier.】 Expect a wine that has transcended its primary fruit, developing complex notes of dried leaves, mushroom, leather, and perhaps a hint of game. The palate will likely be ethereal and delicate, with fully integrated tannins and a lingering, savory finish. Given its age, the condition of the cork and capsule will be crucial, and careful handling is advised. 🍴 This aged Grand Cru Pinot Noir would be an extraordinary pairing for classic, refined dishes that complement its delicate complexity rather than overpower it. Think roasted game birds like pheasant or partridge, truffle-infused risottos, or a simple preparation of duck breast. It could also be a sublime match for aged, earthy cheeses like Comté or Gruyère. 🥂 This is a wine for a truly momentous occasion, a significant anniversary, or a dedicated Burgundy collector's tasting. It's a wine for contemplation and appreciation of history. Serve carefully, perhaps with minimal decanting just to check for sediment, at a cellar temperature of 16-18°C (60-64°F). Be prepared for the possibility of bottle variation due to its age, but approach with optimism for a unique and memorable experience.
BACKGROUND
Domaine Georges Roumier is a wine producer based in the Côte de Nuits village of Chambolle-Musigny that produces some of the most expensive, best-rated and most popular wines in Burgundy. The winery did not purchase the land directly, but used the French sharecropper/lease system, in which individuals farmed the land for the owner in exchange for a certain percentage of agricultural products. Now, Christophe has taken over the work of the winery and has become the owner of the winery. The current winemaker of the village. He pays close attention to terroir, so little new oak is used, and fermentation temperatures are kept low to allow the wine’s delicious flavors and aromas to shine through.
