🏰 The 2001 vintage in Burgundy was generally considered good, producing wines with freshness and good aging potential, though perhaps not as opulent as some of the blockbuster years. Charles Noellat's Morey-Saint-Denis from this vintage would likely showcase the classic characteristics of this Côte de Nuits appellation: a balance of red and dark fruit, earthy undertones, and a firm structure. Wines from Morey-Saint-Denis are known for their depth and often a certain rustic charm, evolving beautifully with age to reveal more complex savory and forest floor notes. This 2001 would be entering a lovely drinking window, offering a harmonious blend of fruit and developed secondary characteristics.
🍴 This elegant red Burgundy would be a superb companion to classic French cuisine. Think roasted duck breast with cherry sauce, coq au vin, or a delicate beef bourguignon. It also pairs wonderfully with earthy dishes like mushroom risotto or aged Comté cheese. The wine's acidity and refined tannins will cut through richer textures while complementing savory flavors.
🥂 The Charles Noellat Morey-Saint-Denis 2001 is ideal for a refined dinner party, a special anniversary, or a quiet evening dedicated to appreciating a mature and expressive Burgundy. It's a wine that invites contemplation and conversation, perfect for those who enjoy the nuanced evolution of Pinot Noir. 【Classic Burgundy Elegance】
BACKGROUND
Charles Noëllat is the current wine merchant brand in the Côte de Nuits sub-region of Burgundy. The few original wines left are very sought-after and very rare. The Noëllat family has a long history of wine production in Vosne-Romanée, started in the early 20th century by brothers Charles and Ernest. Descendants of Charles and Ernest are winemakers at Domaine Georges Noëllat and Domaine Michel Noëllat et Fils respectively.
