🏰Domaine d'Auvenay, run by the legendary Lalou Bize-Leroy, is renowned for its minuscule production and astronomical prices, with each vine meticulously tended following biodynamic principles. This 2009 Auxey-Duresses Les Clous Blanc is a rare gem, offering a hyper-intense pineapple fruit profile yet remaining super stony and steely, defying its village appellation with 【Montrachet-like elegance and pedigree】. The wine presents a pale straw color with crystal clarity, revealing complex aromas of lemon, honey, dry nuts, minerals, and creme brulee. On the palate, it's multi-layered and complex, sprightly when young, gaining fullness and meatiness with age, always maintaining good aromatic persistence.
🍴 This exquisite white Burgundy pairs beautifully with shellfish, rich fish like salmon or tuna, pasta dishes, mild and soft cheeses, and cured meats. Specific suggestions include asparagus in butter sauce, sea bream with sweetcorn, mussel and clam velouté, cod with girolles and pink grapefruit butter sauce, and Gruyère cheese.
🥂 Perfect for an intimate, luxurious dinner or a special celebration where a truly rare and profound white Burgundy will be appreciated. It's also an excellent choice for a serious wine tasting among connoisseurs.
This 2009 vintage is showing beautifully now, but with its inherent structure and quality, it can continue to evolve and offer further complexity over the next few years. Serve chilled, around 10-12°C (50-54°F).
BACKGROUND
Domaine d Auvenay is a small Burgundy wine estate located in Saint-Roman. It is the third entity in the Leroy empire, named after Lalou Bize-Leroy and was previously run by her husband Marcel Bize until his death in 2004. There are 4 hectares (10 acres) of vines, but these include plots of the Grand Cru Mazis-Chambertin, Bonnes-Mares and Bâtard-Montrachet, as well as a handful of top cru vineyards, including Puligny-Montrachet Les Folatières and Meursault les Gouttes d 'Or.
