🏰 The 1998 Jean-Louis Chave Hermitage Blanc is a legendary white wine, renowned for its 【incredible aging potential and profound complexity】. While specific vintage notes for 1998 are scarce, Chave's Hermitage Blanc consistently delivers a powerful and structured experience. Expect a beautiful golden hue, with an evolving bouquet that typically reveals notes of honey, beeswax, toasted nuts, dried apricots, and distinct mineral undertones. The palate is rich and full-bodied, with a luscious texture and a long, lingering finish that speaks of its noble origins and masterful winemaking.
🍴 This exceptional aged white wine is a superb partner for rich seafood dishes like roasted lobster or pan-seared scallops, poultry in creamy sauces, foie gras, and a selection of aged hard cheeses. For an exquisite Asian pairing, consider steamed garoupa with superior soy sauce or a delicate double-boiled chicken soup.
🥂 An extraordinary choice for a very special occasion, a milestone anniversary, or a serious wine tasting focused on the grandeur of aged white Rhône wines.
Serving Suggestion: This 1998 vintage is a mature white wine. It should be served slightly chilled, but not too cold (around 12-14°C or 54-57°F) to allow its complex aromas to express themselves fully. Decanting is generally not recommended for very old white wines unless there's significant sediment, as it can cause them to fade quickly. Handle the cork with extreme care.
BACKGROUND
Domaine Jean-Louis Chave is a powerful wine producer headquartered in the village of Mauves in the Saint-Joseph region, across the Rhone River from Hermitage. It owns about 14.5 hectares (36 acres) of land and grapes. The terraced estate now covers eight different plots on the hill, providing a range of mesoclimates and terroirs for Chave wines. Many of the vines are between 30 and 60 years old.
