FEATURES
🏰The 1970 Rene Engel Vosne Romanee is a 【rare and historic Pinot Noir】 from a legendary Burgundy producer, known for wines that are light on extraction yet possess a charming bouquet of fruits and perfume, offering elegance and remarkable aging potential. This Vosne Romanee is described as suave, jammy, and medium-bodied, with fruity, satin-textured black cherry notes. Expect a complex and evolved profile, potentially revealing powerful, stewed dark fruit on the nose, with earthy undertones, impressive length, and balanced acidity. Perfectly mature examples might showcase freshly picked rhubarb with earth, iron, raspberry, dried flowers, and mushroom, framed by some tannic grip and cranberry acid. 🍴 This profound red Burgundy is an ideal pairing for classic dishes featuring beef, veal, poultry, and various game meats like deer and venison. Its evolved character will complement rich, earthy flavors beautifully. 🥂 A truly exceptional bottle for a very special milestone, a profound tasting experience for a serious collector, or a moment of deep historical appreciation. This is a wine to be savored and reflected upon. Serving a very old vintage like this 1970 Rene Engel requires extreme care and reverence. Expect a very fragile cork and significant sediment. Stand the bottle upright for at least a week, preferably longer, before opening to allow all sediment to settle. Decant very gently, perhaps through a fine mesh filter, just before serving to separate the wine from sediment. The wine may be delicate, so serve at a cool cellar temperature (around 14-16°C). While the condition of such an old wine can vary, a well-preserved 1970 Rene Engel Vosne Romanee can offer an incredibly complex, ethereal, and unforgettable experience, a true testament to the enduring magic of Burgundy. Approach with anticipation and respect for its history.
BACKGROUND
Domaine René Engel was a Burgundy producer known for making some of the top examples of Pinot Noir in Vosne-Romanée, France. The domaine remained in the Engel family for three generations until the death of Philippe Engel in 2005. The domaine's vineyard holdings spanned a total of around six hectares. In 2006, René Engel's vineyard holdings were purchased by François Pinault, owner of the renowned Château Latour, and Domaine d'Eugenie was formed.
