FEATURES
🏰This 1981 Bonnes Mares Grand Cru from Joseph Drouhin is a 【rare and contemplative offering from a challenging vintage】, showcasing the skill of one of Burgundy's most historic négociant houses in crafting a Grand Cru that has gracefully matured. The 1981 vintage was generally difficult, but top producers like Drouhin could still produce respectable wines. Expect a delicate and fully mature wine, with pronounced tertiary aromas of dried leaves, forest floor, mushroom, and damp earth, possibly with some faded red fruit like dried cranberry or rosehip. The palate will be light to medium-bodied, with fully resolved tannins and bright acidity, a testament to its enduring structure. This is a wine for quiet appreciation, reflecting its age and the producer's mastery in a difficult year. 🍴 This delicate, aged Grand Cru pairs best with subtle flavors that won't overpower its nuanced profile. Think delicate game birds, a refined mushroom consommé, truffle pasta, or very mild, aged cheeses. For an elegant Asian pairing, consider a light Cantonese double-boiled chicken soup or delicate steamed fish with minimal seasoning. 🥂 Ideal for a very special, intimate tasting for experienced Burgundy collectors, a unique birth year wine for someone born in 1981, or a historical tasting to explore how Grand Crus from top domaines perform in challenging vintages. For optimal enjoyment, stand the bottle upright for several days. Use an Ah-So opener or a Durand for the potentially fragile cork. Decant very gently and immediately before serving to remove sediment, but be wary of over-aeration to preserve delicate aromatics. Serve at 16-18°C. Kindly remember that with wines of this venerable age, cork and capsule condition can vary, adding to the anticipation of discovery.
BACKGROUND
Joseph Drouhin is one of Burgundy's most important wine producers, France. The primary grape variety is Pinot Noir, with a small portion being Chardonnay. Founded in Beaune in 1880, the domaine has expanded throughout the 20th Century to include vineyards in Chablis, the Côte de Nuits, the Côte de Beaune and the Côte Chalonnaise, making everything from simple, village-level cuvées to highly priced grand cru and premier cru wines from Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.
