FEATURES
The 1975 Château Suduiraut is a Sauternes from an excellent vintage for the region, known for producing wines with beautiful balance and rich botrytis character, many with long-term cellaring potential. At nearly 50 years old, this wine is showing its age, often presenting a caramel color. Tasting notes reveal mushroom and earthy white fruit notes, with the sweetness having subsided somewhat. Michael Broadbent, in 1997, described it as harmonious, fully evolved, fragrant with peach and blossom, very sweet yet with a dry finish, great length, power, and vivacity. More recently, notes include orange, wax, wood, tobacco, and undergrowth on the bouquet, with a linear palate showing spices like turmeric, citrus aromas, particularly orange, quince, and rancio, with a trace of bitterness in the finish. It has a full body, silky texture, and a long finish with low acidity. 【A fully mature Sauternes showcasing complex tertiary aromas】. While still an interesting and unique wine, it may not retain the youthful sweetness of its prime.
Given its considerable age, this wine requires delicate handling. Old corks are very fragile; use a two-pronged ah-so or a Durand opener. Decanting is highly recommended to enhance the fragrances and separate any sediment, but always replace the stopper. Serve chilled, around 10-12°C (50-54°F).
🍴 This aged Sauternes, with its evolved character, would pair wonderfully with foie gras, blue cheeses like Roquefort, or rich fruit tarts. For an Asian pairing, consider delicate almond tofu dessert or a light, subtly sweet bird's nest soup.
🥂 Perfect for a very special anniversary, a contemplative tasting session with connoisseurs, or as a unique dessert wine for a significant family gathering.
