FEATURES
🏰 The 1928 vintage was a spectacular, even legendary, year for Bordeaux, particularly for red wines from the Médoc. A hot, dry summer produced a rich, concentrated, and highly tannic vintage. Favorable climatic conditions allowed for the slow maturation of Cabernet Sauvignon, the dominant grape variety on the Left Bank, giving rise to remarkably structured wines. The harvest took place in good conditions, yielding healthy and concentrated grapes. Many experienced tasters consider Château Latour the wine of the vintage. Interestingly, much of the 1928 Bordeaux stock remained unsold for decades due to the onset of the Great Depression, which means some bottles can still be found today.
These wines were known for their intense concentration of fruit from the start, but also for masses of hard tannins. Even today, while aromatically complex, most 1928 Bordeaux wines are still described as hard, firm, and austere in nature.
【A legendary Bordeaux vintage known for its immense structure and longevity, a true testament to time.】
🥂 This is a truly historic wine, ideal for a significant anniversary or a gathering of serious wine collectors. It's a testament to longevity. As a wine of this venerable age, expect significant sediment, and the cork will likely be delicate. Use an Ah-So or Durand opener. Decant very carefully, perhaps through a fine mesh, to separate sediment, but be prepared for the wine to show its age. Old Bordeaux can be austere, even after decades, so approach with an open mind, appreciating its historical significance. Serve at cellar temperature, around 16-18°C.
🍴 Given its age and tannic structure, it would pair well with rich, slow-cooked red meats, robust game dishes, or aged hard cheeses.
