🏰Experience a piece of history with the legendary 1959 Domaine Rene Engel Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru, a Burgundy red known for its 【intense raspberry-red to deep garnet color and a sweet floral bouquet】. The 1959 vintage was exceptional, producing rich, velvety, and sumptuous wines that, at their best, are still drinking beautifully today. This Grand Cru offers a savory and classic profile, with aromas of blackberry, raspberry, wild mint, and even truffle, evolving into complex notes of earthy leather, mushroom, and subtle spices.
🍴 This exquisite aged Burgundy pairs perfectly with classic dishes such as roast duck, goose, and various game birds. It also complements beef, veal, and poultry beautifully.
🥂 A true collector's item, this wine is ideal for profound tasting experiences, milestone celebrations, or as a centerpiece for a very special dinner. Given its age, expect potential fragility of the cork and capsule. Decanting might be beneficial to separate sediment, but do so carefully and just before serving to preserve delicate aromas. Serve at cellar temperature (around 16-18°C).
BACKGROUND
Domaine René Engel was a Burgundy producer known for making some of the top examples of Pinot Noir in Vosne-Romanée, France. The domaine remained in the Engel family for three generations until the death of Philippe Engel in 2005. The domaine's vineyard holdings spanned a total of around six hectares. In 2006, René Engel's vineyard holdings were purchased by François Pinault, owner of the renowned Château Latour, and Domaine d'Eugenie was formed.
