🏰 The 1982 Charles Noellat Vosne Romanée 1er Cru, from a legendary Burgundy vintage, is a true testament to the longevity and elegance of fine Pinot Noir. The 1982 vintage in Burgundy was generally considered excellent, producing rich, ripe, and opulent wines that have aged beautifully. Expect a wine that has evolved gracefully, showcasing complex tertiary aromas of dried roses, forest floor, truffle, and sweet spices, interwoven with hints of faded red berries. This is a wine that embodies the classic, old-world charm of Vosne Romanée. 【 A rare and exquisite example of a perfectly aged Vosne Romanée from a stellar vintage. 】
Given its considerable age, handling this bottle with utmost care is paramount. The cork will likely be very fragile; a two-pronged Ah-So opener or a Durand is highly recommended to extract it without breakage. The capsule might also be delicate. Ensure the bottle has been standing upright for at least 48 hours to allow any sediment to settle. Decanting is generally recommended for older wines to separate sediment and allow the wine to open up, but for a wine of this age, a brief decant (15-30 minutes) is usually sufficient to avoid over-exposure to air, which could cause it to fade. Serve at a cool cellar temperature, around 16-18°C (60-64°F).
🍴 This venerable red Burgundy would be magnificent with refined dishes such as roasted squab with wild mushrooms, pan-seared foie gras, or a delicate venison loin. It also pairs beautifully with aged Epoisses or Comté cheese.
🥂 This is a wine for truly special occasions: a milestone anniversary, a significant birthday, or an intimate gathering of serious wine connoisseurs. It's an experience to be savoured, a journey through time in a glass.
BACKGROUND
Charles Noëllat is the current wine merchant brand in the Côte de Nuits sub-region of Burgundy. The few original wines left are very sought-after and very rare. The Noëllat family has a long history of wine production in Vosne-Romanée, started in the early 20th century by brothers Charles and Ernest. Descendants of Charles and Ernest are winemakers at Domaine Georges Noëllat and Domaine Michel Noëllat et Fils respectively.
