🏰 The 2001 Port vintage was very good, despite being mostly undeclared by many houses. It was characterized by an extremely wet winter followed by a warm, dry summer, with favorable maturation conditions. Quinta do Vesuvio Vintage Port 2001 is a powerful wine, deep purple-black with a narrow magenta rim. It offers an exuberant nose of fresh blackcurrant and cherry, lovely floral notes, and firm yet well-integrated tannins. The palate is filled with fresh, ripe black fruit and plum flavors, leading to a long, lingering blackberry and dark chocolate aftertaste. This is a very balanced, stylish wine with excellent structure and aging potential. 【 A very balanced, stylish Vintage Port from a year that rewarded careful viticulture, offering great concentration and elegance. 】
Vintage Port forms a natural sediment and requires decanting. Stand the bottle upright for at least 24 hours (or even longer for older bottles) to allow the sediment to settle. Gently remove the cork, ideally with a traditional waiter's friend or a Durand opener for older, more fragile corks. Slowly and steadily pour the wine into a clean decanter, stopping as soon as you see sediment approaching the bottle neck. Serve at 16-18°C (61-64°F) in good-sized glasses, and ideally enjoy within one to two days after opening.
🥂 This classic Vintage Port is perfect for concluding a festive meal, celebrating a special occasion, or as a contemplative drink with good company. It's a wine that commands attention and offers a memorable experience.
🍴 A young to mature, full-bodied, and fruit-driven Vintage Port like this 2001 pairs exceptionally well with dark chocolate or strong blue cheeses such as Stilton. For a truly indulgent experience, enjoy it on its own as a dessert.
