Chateau Cheval Blanc, 1973
Red
750ml
Label : Slightly Stained Label
Level : Top Shoulder Level
🏰 A rare and historic bottle, the 1973 Chateau Cheval Blanc offers a unique opportunity to experience a very mature Bordeaux, showcasing 【delicate tertiary aromas and a profound sense of history】. While 1973 was a challenging vintage, a well-preserved Cheval Blanc from this era can still offer a fascinating journey through time. Expect a very delicate palate with notes of 【dried red fruits, forest floor, leather, tobacco, and faded rose petals】, with extremely soft tannins and a subtle, lingering finish. This wine is more about historical significance and the beauty of extreme age than youthful vibrancy.
🍴 This venerable Bordeaux pairs best with refined, simple dishes that won't overpower its delicate nature. Consider roasted lamb or beef with minimal seasoning, mushroom-based dishes, or aged hard cheeses. Avoid strong flavors or heavy sauces.
🥂 An extraordinary choice for a truly once-in-a-lifetime tasting, a significant anniversary, or a profound moment of reflection for a dedicated collector. This is a rare opportunity to savor a piece of Bordeaux history. Kindly remember that with wines of this age, the cork and capsule may be fragile, requiring careful handling.
BACKGROUND
Chateau Cheval Blanc is a property in the Saint-Emilion region of Bordeaux, classified with the top ranking of Premier Grand Cru Classe A.The vineyard is located in the northwest of the region, bordering Pomerol – La Conseillante is a neighbor – and consists of 39 hectares (96 acres) divided into 45 plots. There is an unusually high amount of Cabernet Franc planted, about 49 percent, with 47 percent Merlot and 4 percent Cabernet Sauvignon. The unusual planting proportions reflect the terroir; most vineyards in the region are either clay or gravel-based over impermeable sedimentary rock, but Cheval Blanc is unique in having a patchwork of soils with the two types in roughly equal proportions. The clay soils provide base wines with velvety tannins, while those from gravel soils are more aromatic and elegant.
