FEATURES
🏰 【Often described as a 'Super Second' or the 'First of the second growths', Château Léoville Las Cases is a true benchmark of prestige within the Bordeaux vineyard】, renowned for producing wines of remarkable longevity. The 1976 vintage was marked by an intense drought from May through August, followed by welcome rainy episodes in September that allowed the berries to plump up before harvest. Michel Delon, who significantly improved the estate's quality, managed it from 1976.
This mature Bordeaux reveals a magnificent tawny hue with subtle orange nuances, typical of its age. The aromatic bouquet is complex, opening with tertiary notes of undergrowth, cigar box, and cocoa, harmoniously complemented by touches of prune, cedar, and leather. The palate is extremely elegant, carried by tannins that have become supple, silky, and perfectly integrated over time. The balance is magnificent, supported by a beautiful freshness that stretches towards a menthol-tinged finish of appreciable length. Some notes also describe it as firm, strict, and stoic, with more cedar, tobacco, smoke, earth, and cigar box notes than fruit, and starting to dry out, while others find it fragrant with cedar and black truffle-like scents, quite Pauillac in style, with a sweet core of fruit and a pleasant prickle of spice.
🍴 To enhance this great mature wine, opt for roasted red meats such as a rack of lamb or a fine rib steak. It will also pair wonderfully with game birds, dishes featuring forest mushrooms or truffles, as well as aged hard cheeses such as an aged Comté.
🥂 A superb choice for a formal dinner, a special anniversary, or a gathering of serious wine connoisseurs.
Serving: It is recommended to serve Château Léoville Las Cases 1976 at an ideal temperature of between 17 and 18 °C (62-64°F). A very light and moderate decanting is recommended only to separate any sediment, without risking shocking the wine. As this vintage is in an advanced phase of maturity, it is advisable to enjoy it without waiting indefinitely. Be mindful of the old cork and capsule, and consider using an Ah-So opener for delicate extraction.
