🏰 The 1959 Chateau d'Yquem is a truly legendary vintage, hailed as one of Bordeaux's finest and a testament to Yquem's unparalleled aging potential. This Premier Cru Supérieur Sauternes, crafted from meticulous vineyard work and ancestral know-how since 1593, comes from a very hot year with well-distributed showers, leading to a quick, successful harvest. 【It reveals a deep golden, mahogany hue, with an ethereal perfume of roasted apricots, burnt caramel, butterscotch, marmalade, overripe pineapple, and nuts, all topped with honey. The palate is a seamless journey of honeyed, caramel-topped yellow and orange spiced fruits, balanced by blistering acidity and a remarkably long finish】.
🍴 This exquisite sweet wine is perfectly paired with blue cheeses like Roquefort, rich sweet desserts, foie gras, or even more adventurous pairings like quail with foie gras.
🥂 An iconic wine for a momentous celebration, a significant anniversary, or as the ultimate gift for a discerning collector. This wine is a living piece of history. Given its extreme age, the cork and capsule will be very fragile. It is highly recommended to use an Ah-So opener or a Durand corkscrew. Decant very carefully, allowing the wine to breathe for a short period (30-60 minutes) to awaken its complex aromas without over-exposing it. Serve chilled, around 10-12°C (50-54°F), in small dessert wine glasses to savor every precious drop.
BACKGROUND
Chateau d'Yquem is a property in the Sauternes district of Bordeaux, making what is arguably the world's most famous dessert wine. The Yquem vineyard is planted to around 75 percent Semillon and 25 percent Sauvignon Blanc. A team of around 150 expert pickers are used each vintage and make multiple passes through the vineyard to ensure that only fully botrytized fruit is harvested. Yields are very low â about 900 liters per hectare, or around one glass per vine.
