🏰 The 2005 vintage in Bordeaux is widely celebrated as one of the greatest, particularly for the Right Bank, marked by near-perfect weather that ensured optimal grape ripeness. These wines are masterpieces of concentration and balance, offering incredible depth of fruit, ripe tannins, and a structure built for decades of aging. This vintage produced wines of great longevity that are now reaching their peak. 【 Exemplary 2005 Right Bank vintage masterpiece 】
🍴 Château Yon Figeac 2005 presents a developed nose with notes of dried plum, truffle, tobacco leaf, and cedar, complemented by silky, resolved tannins. Expect aromas of leather, tobacco, earth, forest, and leafy characteristics, leading to a medium-bodied, elegantly styled palate with cherry and wild strawberry notes. It pairs splendidly with beef and venison, as well as red meats (grilled or with rich sauces) and even chocolate desserts. Classic meat dishes like veal, pork, lamb, duck, game, and roast chicken are excellent choices. Its Merlot-dominant blend also makes it suitable for roasted poultry, mushroom-based recipes, and semi-soft cheeses.
🥂 This wine is ready to drink now, yet possesses the potential for further aging, making it a versatile choice for both immediate enjoyment and long-term cellaring. Serve at approximately 15.5°C (60°F) and consider decanting for an hour before serving to allow its multi-layered aromas to fully unfold.
BACKGROUND
Chateau Yon-Figeac is a Saint Emilion property which is ranked as a Grand Cru Classe in the official 2012 classifications. It is best known for its Merlot-based red wine. The estate is one of the larger single-plot estates on the Bordeaux right bank, with 25 hectares (62 acres) of vines on sand and clay soils with iron deposits. More than 85 percent of the vineyard is planted with Merlot, while Cabernet Franc takes up 10 percent (which is being reduced) and 4 percent is planted to Petit Verdot.
