🏰 Château d'Yquem 1994, the unparalleled Premier Cru Supérieur of Sauternes, showcases its 【exceptional terroir even in a challenging vintage, producing a sweet white wine of remarkable power and finesse】. The 1994 Sauternes vintage was generally considered hit-and-miss due to heavy spring frosts and September rains. However, Yquem's own notes highlight the power and finesse of its clayey plots, demonstrating how a great terroir can rise above capricious weather, yielding highly concentrated grapes despite the challenges.
🍴 This exquisite sweet wine offers incredible versatility. It's a luxurious pairing with pan-fried foie gras, roasted chicken, or spicy Asian cuisine. For cheese lovers, it's heavenly with Roquefort, mild blue cheeses, or aged Comté. It can also complement desserts like orange crêpes or lightly sweetened lemon tarts, but is equally stunning on its own.
🥂 An unforgettable choice for a grand celebration, a sophisticated dessert course, or a contemplative moment of pure indulgence.
Kindly reminder: This 1994 Château d'Yquem, despite the vintage's challenges, is a testament to the estate's enduring quality and has developed incredible complexity over time. Expect a rich tapestry of dried fruits, honeyed notes, and nuanced botrytis character. Older sweet wines can be very delicate; ensure the cork is handled with care. Serve chilled, but not overly so, to allow its intricate aromas to unfold.
BACKGROUND
Chateau d'Yquem is a property in the Sauternes district of Bordeaux, making what is arguably the world's most famous dessert wine. The Yquem vineyard is planted to around 75 percent Semillon and 25 percent Sauvignon Blanc. A team of around 150 expert pickers are used each vintage and make multiple passes through the vineyard to ensure that only fully botrytized fruit is harvested. Yields are very low â about 900 liters per hectare, or around one glass per vine.
