Vintage difficult to read but legible
🏰 The 1974 vintage for Bordeaux was a challenging one, marked by shortages and unpredictable weather during World War II, yet Château La Lagune managed to produce wines of surprising character and vitality. This Haut-Médoc, a blend predominantly of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Petit Verdot, is noted for retaining a concentration of fruit, freshness, and a supple texture despite the vintage's difficulties. Expect an elegant and aromatic profile, with mature examples often revealing notes of old leather, cedar, and tobacco, alongside a savoury Margaux/Graves blend of elements. 【 A wine from a challenging Bordeaux vintage that retains concentration of fruit, freshness and supple texture. 】
🥂 This rare, aged bottle is a true collector's item, perfect for a very special occasion or a contemplative evening, offering a unique glimpse into Bordeaux's history. Given its age, it's a testament to resilience and heritage.
Serving Advice: Handle this extremely old bottle with the utmost care. Stand it upright for several days to allow any sediment to settle. Use an Ah-So opener or a Durand to minimise the risk of cork breakage. Decant very gently, just before serving, to separate the wine from its sediment. Avoid over-decanting, as very old wines can fade quickly. Serve at a cool cellar temperature, around 15.5 degrees Celsius (60 degrees Fahrenheit).
🍴 This classic red Bordeaux pairs beautifully with traditional meat dishes such as roasted beef, venison, or lamb. For a more refined pairing, consider simply prepared cuts like loin chops or a rack of lamb, avoiding overly strong or spicy flavours that might overpower the wine's delicate, evolved nuances. It can also complement hearty fish courses like tuna or mushroom-based dishes.
