🏰 The 1995 Chateau Lafleur is a 【stellar Pomerol, widely recognized as an embodiment of elegance and structural integrity】 from an excellent Bordeaux vintage. This vintage was marked by optimal ripening of Merlot and Cabernet Franc, resulting in a wine of immense depth and complexity. Now at full maturity, the 1995 Lafleur presents a full-bodied experience with aromatic complexity of truffles, violets, and black cherries, harmonizing with earthy undertones, graphite, and smoked herbs. It's a wine that has reached its plateau of maturity after 20 years and will remain there for many more.
🍴 This magnificent Pomerol would be an exquisite pairing for classic dishes such as roast lamb shoulder with rosemary, seared ribeye steak, or duck confit. Its mature notes of truffle and earth also make it exceptional with game, braised short ribs, or a rich mushroom risotto. Aged Comté or Saint-Nectaire cheese would also be a superb match.
🥂 An ideal choice for a significant celebration, a serious wine collector's tasting, or a luxurious dinner where the wine is the star. It's a profound and meditative wine that offers both immediate sensory joy and long-term investment potential.
BACKGROUND
Château Lafleur is a tiny (4.5ha, 11 acres) family-run property in the Pomerol appellation on Bordeaux's Right Bank. The vineyard sits on deep layers of gravel on the edge of the Pomerol plateau, next to La Fleur-Pétrus. The vineyard is planted 50/50 between Merlot and Cabernet Franc; an unusually high proportion of the latter which contributes greatly to the wine's capacity (and need) for ageing. Yields are very low even by the standards of Pomerol, and only around 1000 cases are made each year, and typically up to 400 of these may be released as Pensées de Lafleur. This was created for the poor 1987 vintage when no Grand Vin was released, though now focuses on specific plots and is not regarded by the producers as a second wine.
